OVERVIEW

Fuel Oil

Fuel oil, a fraction obtained from petroleum distillation, is made of long hydrocarbon chains, hence, it is considered as the heaviest commercial fuel (heavier than Gasoline and Naphtha) that have a particularly high viscosity and density and can be obtained from crude oil. Fuel oils are black in colour.

Applications

Fuel oil is known as a liquid petroleum product that is burned in furnaces or boilers for the generation of heat or used in an engine for the generation of power. Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) is mainly used as marine fuel.

Almost all medium and low-speed marine diesel engines are designed to consume HFO.
